I had the same "problem". I ended up with the Tikka T3 Lite Stainless. Very light i.e. nasty recoil but if you carry the rifle a lot then it's perfect. Check if they import the laminated version to Australia. It's a tad heavier so it'll be better to shoot (and it's much better balanced) but still quite weather-resistant and light to carry. The plastick stock of the Tikka is incrdibly noisy. It must be hollow as anything that hits it (e.g. the sling) makes a loud noise. Other alternatives - the Browning. The A-Bolt is being discontinued in favor of the X-Bolt so you may get good deals. I have three friends that have the A-Bolt and they're plenty pleased. We often hunt in poor conditions as autumn means rain and/or snowslash. The X-Bolt seems a better and smarter gun but I have yet to actually shoot one. The Sauer has a grand reputation, indeed. You will not go wrong with one I believe. Try to shoot one before you buy to see how you like it. - Lars/Finland |
