This is an interesting calibre/cartridge and the more I look at it the more it interests me.

I am thinking (have been for some time) of a .300 Win Mag as a long range hunting rifle (in SS/synthetic). But I am now seriously considering a 30/338 instead. It achieved quite a reputation in 1,000 yard competitions many years ago but in recent times has lost ground to the 6.5-284 and the like. However, it would fit the bill quite well and be a more efficient cartridge than the .300WM.
