I think they would work fine in lower cals, probably act just like they do in bigger calibres - ie like a SOLID for penetration but soft for damage.
Like Ben, I would love to shoot a Buffalo with one (in 30 cal), not so much a head shot as a brain shot doesn't really
test the bullet but a heart / shoulder joint shot where bullet placement is vital.
