Everything with optics is a compromise. Eye relief is determined by the field-of-view, and by the focal lengths of the objective lens and eyepiece lens. Generally, the higher the magnification and the larger the field-of-view, the shorter the eye relief. http://www.opticstalk.com/riflescope-school_topic5027.html I have a Zeiss Conquest 4x32 (no longer available) on my lightweight 9.3x62 and IMHO it is a great compromise with excellent clarity, good weight and useable/hunt'able' eye relief. The only problem is aesthetic in that the ocular houseing is larger than the objective houseing. If you get the chance try to look through one. I have a Kahles 3.5-10x50 and that is en excellent lightweight scope with great clarity in fadeing light, especially when the magnification is turned down. I firmly believe you get what you pay for with optics and the more you spend, the less you will have to compromise. |
