I'd add my vote for the 300 H&H. I picked up my pre-64 M70 about a 2 years ago and took it to Namibia last year. Took 4 plains game in size from gemsbok to eland with no problems at ranges from 80 to 150 yds. Mine seems to like the longer, heavier bullets and I was shooting 220 gr Nosler Partitions in Africa. Although with continued load development I've been getting better groups with the 180 gr Speer Grand Slam as well.

I also have a 300 Win Mag (formerly my late brother's). It's a mid 80's M70. My brother loved it and could shoot very well with it, but for me it just hurts. Must be the stock configuration or something but to me it kicks like a mule. So understandably I'm not a big fan of the Winchester version of the 300 mags (or the post 64 M70's for that matter).
