Re: 264 Winchester Mag Interest

Peas in a pod, ballistics wise - 6.5x68 and .264WM. I had a 70's era .264 with a very slow barrel, that would only make 3,350fps with 120gr."X". Of course, there really aren't many flies on those speeds, but it should have done better.

The smaller cased .260 CLC (60gr. capacity same as .6.5x284) made 3,308fps with the same 120gr. "X" bullet.

In a factory ctg., the .264 gave a level of ballistics unmatched by other factory ctgs. until now, with the 6.5x284. Although more a target round, it should develop populatity for hunting.

High velocity 6.4's can be a death ray on lighter big game and still take heavy ungulates with appropriate bullets.

I would place the hunting accuracy barrel life (1 1/2" @ 100) of most .264's at 800 to 1,000 rounds - if cared for and cleaned properly - still more than most people will shoot in a lifetime of hunting with an 85gr. capacity ctg.
