Gates wrote "Metallic Silhouette Shooting" published by DBI Books in 1979. He was credited with creating IHMSA, or International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Assocation (I believe that is the right name). Elgin also helped "invent" several cartridges including many of the Dan Wesson Supermag cartridges.
