Magnum308, Elgin was a very interesting character. I would love to read the 3 books he wrote, but what I can find those are out of print and commanding a pretty steep price on the collector's market. I have a few books that include a few stories from him. One is a compilation on African Hunting by Winchester Press and other is 'Spiral Horn Dreams' by Terry Wieland. His foray's into Mozambique recall some of the days of early explorer's into Africa. If I recall correctly, he nearly did not make it back to tell the tale. It's my understanding the Kudu that caused so much bad publicity for him, was a practical joke he was playing on a few of his friends, but it got out of hand. Elgin was a very interesting character indeed. I believe he was in marketing or sales for one of the boat motor manufacturers in Texas. I could be wrong about that, but believe it was Mercury or Evinrude. He was very involved in many areas of shooting sports and, at least to me, has earned his legend in the shooting world and hunting world. |
