I see a couple of problems with this...without a ballistics table in front of me, my recollection is that the .250-3000 Savage is solidly in the middle of the 25-caliber spectrum (more powerful than the .256, .25-20, and .25-35 Winchesters but less powerful than the .25-06 and .257 Roberts) and I don't think you're going to find much in the way of bullets that exceed 120-grains or so. Assuming you can get some loads worked up that are significantly faster than the original load, or shoot bullets that aren't close to the weight of the original load, the sights will be worthless as they were regulated to the loads of the period. Over many years of shooting pre-war Winchesters I've run into this problem enough to learn that lesson...and also to learn that the original loads are still plenty good for hunting most game animals.

I'd encourage you to take it on a hog hunt with whatever factory ammo it likes; I'd probably start with the Winchester load but I'm partial to Silvertip bullets in the old lever action rounds.

While I can't speak for the Savages, I can tell you I've owned many takedown Winchesters that were absolutely as accurate as their solid-frame counterparts. One in particular, a deluxe takedown Model 1895 in .30-'03, is frighteningly accurate with 220-grain "factory duplication" loads- more accurate than the vast majority of bolt actions I've ever owned. That may be a function of the Savage takedown design or differences in manufacturing, etc. but don't assume it's not a shooter until you've tried it out with the loads it was designed to shoot.
