You know, I am ALMOST of the same opinion as you regarding the .300. I too own a .257, .270, .300, and .340 Weatherby. I find myself thinking more often these days that the .300 is afflicted with the stigma of the all-around caliber. I find myself reaching for the .257, .270, or .340 in most cases instead of the .300.

This is strictly a matter of perspective based on the rifles an individual owns. I only think this way because I have calibers on either side of the .300. Another man may have the .257 and a .375 H&H, in which case a general purpose .300 Weatherby would fit right in.
