The 6.5 x 284 is a fine long range cartridge but it will burn out the barrel quickly especially if you have it loaded hot. A very good alternative is the 260 Ackley Improved (308 case with 40 deg shoulder). Almost the same velocity with lower pressure. That caliber is winning most matches down here at 560 yards and 1000 yards. I have over a 1000 rounds through mine without a loss of accuracy or throat erosion.
