Herein lies the reason I've never owned a rifle chambered for 260 Remington. Only the Ruger has rifling that is fast enough. When Remington introduced the cartridge in their line, they used 1:8.5" rifling, which is appropriate, but they tried to go too fast. Complaints about high pressure with 140 gr bullets surfaced, and rather than load to appropriate speeds, they dropped the bullet weight and changed to 1:9" rifling. Now the heaviest bullets their guns will handle are 120 gr. The Ruger, with appropriate rifling, has a 16.5" barrel, which is too short, even for me. |
