Hommer This is one of my all time favorite cartridges..and have reloaded and shot them off and on for the past 15 years..personally think it is one of the best offerings from Weatherby.. Currently I have 2--both built on Remington actions..one on a titanium with a #2 contour Hart barrel--with a 4-14 Leupold scope--weighs 7 lbs total--the other is a standard stainless action with a #3 hart barrel---both will shoot 1/2" at 100yds...use the titanium a LOT for hunting deer, elk and bear climbing around in the mountains...use the other for antelope..while it is a bit light for elk, IMHO, have never had ANY game animal get away with this caliber..again, shot plaement is everything as in all calibers.. In my experience, it hits a lot harder than one might expect --sure it is due to the velocity..have used 4831, RL-22, RL-25 and H1000...all with Fed 215 primers--currently shooting Barnes Triple Shocks in 100 gr--velocity is right at 3700 fps...have loaded them all the way to 3840 and down to 3500--but the speed now seems to shoot really well..have also used Nosler ballistic tips, which I would only recommend on light game as the velocity is too much for that bullet..works nice on our pronghorns over here... Load right now with the Barnes is H1000--Fed 215 Primers, Weatherby case..100gr Barnes Triple shocks.. Need or want any addl info let me know-- I attached a couple of muley's taken with the .257 in the past few years.. Thanks Ripp |
