Jtom, a 180/.270 @ 2650 fps sounds like a real winner to me.

With a 1/8 twist and good solder-core type bullets, such a combination should make for an excellent cartridge of somewhat different performance to the "standard" .270. I have a feeling the performance of the 6.5x55 sheds good light on what might be done with long-for-caliber .270 bullets.

Thanks for posting. I did not think the standard 1/10 twist was quite up to making a 180/.270 go where we want it to go. Possibly some might get ok accuracy out of the old twist, but I reckon most won't.
