"that 8x68s is a hell of a cracker mate" That seems to be the general opinion. It is odd therefore that it doesnt seem to have gained as much popularity as any of the belted magnums. I supposed it is that old 8mm problem, and the fact that it offers little more than the 300's, less than the 338's, and with a reduced selection of bullets? Either way, it seems it would make a good all around calibre save for dangerous game. It is a wonder also it never got military use given the era in which it was created, although I suppose by that time, the 8x57 had already got a head start. I found a little data on this page (http://ericsettle.co.uk/SUPMAGS.htm ) which gives some history. Andrew |
