The 338 Lapua overbore capacity and cartridge characteristics make it capable of fine long range accuracy out to 800 yds and then some.Its burn characteristics and (relatively)compact powder column promote long range accuracy.It was NOT designed as a hunting cartridge.

It has no measurable advantage at hunting distances over a 340 Wby which has similar powder capacity.

I agree with Daryl that the 338 Wm is a 300 yd cartridge and a great one at that.Thats what I took to africa for plains game and it worked great out to 286 yds on a mountain Zebra and other closer animals.

I hope to like the 338-378 Wby round for shots out to 450 yds.I am shooting various loads but don't have the accuracy I want yet.250 gr at 3000 fps with great accuracy is my goal.
