Hi Daryl Thanks for the explaination. Not offended at all, I totally agree with you for the North American Big game that .30-06, .300 win mag or .308 should be good enough in a good shooters hand. I was just curious as to what the actual difference is, it sounds just the extra velocity of the .338 lapua which would not be required for North American Big game. Moreover it is an expensive round. And the friend who owns the rifle has used it on his international hunting trips to take down Marco Polo sheeps, a few Argali's in Mongolia and some Red Stags in New Zealand. I think .338 lapua is a suitable cartridge for longer distance ranges which are common in these exotic hunts around the globe. And the longest shot he has made with the Lapua is a 550 yard hit on a Marco Polo sheep. Which is a lot more distance for me to hit, haha. I wish I can shoot a deer at 100 yards with my one and only Centerfire .270 FN rifle. Thanks |
