Re: GOSTOMSKI’S GUNSMITH SERVICE

I have recently had Bill's shop stock, glass bed, and free float two barreled actions. They did a superb job and I am very pleased with the results.

I met Bill and his son and toured their shop. It is well furnished with equipment and the work they had in progress looked very good. Examples of finished work was top quality.

Re: GOSTOMSKI’S GUNSMITH SERVICE

I will be sending my barreled action, a MRC1999 reworked by Delta Gun Shop [Jim Dubell] to resemble a 1920s Mauser H&H, along with the New Zealand english walnut blanks and its burl African blackwood forend wood to the Gostomskis for a stock. I am looking for a stock similar to that made by some of the English firms sold as stalking rifles.

Is this crew related to the late and great Curly Gostomski? RZ

I do not know, but I talked a few times with Bill and he is a nice person to talk with. Runs a fulltime gunsmithing shop with his son. The work I have viewed is top notch.

My custom rifle is coming along great. I have a few months to wait still. Gostomskis are great people.

Lookin' Good! 333_

Glad you were pleased - I certainly was. I plan on going back to Bill for some customization on a couple of Whitworths. One Whitworth is a .375 H&H and the second is a .458 Win Mag. I'll have to wait until I return from Africa in late June since the .375 is going with me.

I will also have him stock a .270 Win Husqvarna with a 40 year old European walnut blank I picked up while stationed in Germany.

They do really nice work and are kept busy by folks from Washington DC, Baltimore and Southern Pennsylvania. So ... a long wait is sometimes to be expected.

Re: GOSTOMSKI’S GUNSMITH SERVICE

The wait was not too long at all and they kept me up to speed on the whole process. I was forunate to find them on the internet and they have very reasonable prices. As you can see the rifle they made is priceless for a tall man like me with a 15 inch LOP, but the craftsmanship is amazing.

It is a 6.5X55 so it is actually a 155 semi-RN

Re: GOSTOMSKI’S GUNSMITH SERVICE

Just an update...the gun shoots amazing. It is rather large, but I am 6'8" / 300 pounds. Accuracy is 1.5 inch at 305 yards consistently. At 100 yards it is limited by my shooting. I can get it under 1 inch, but I alway pull one to the upper right.

Re: GOSTOMSKI’S GUNSMITH SERVICE

What a nice rifle.

And in .264 Norsk caliber, too. That really put me over the edge...

You mention the rifle is large and I guess it would be 70 action and all. But...

What a killer. Gotta be zero recoil. My old ski rifle is a Ruger 77 in 6.5x55 {one of my three M77's in 6.5x55} and tho a bit heavy, the thing kicks like a .223 and kills like a .35 Whelen. You can practically fire it with the butt pressed against your chin.

Those that have never hunted with the 6.5x55 probably don't get it, but to a man every newbie to the round that tries it on game is hooked. GREAT choice.

Thanks for posting. Beautiful, serviceable, USEFUL rifle!

Re: GOSTOMSKI’S GUNSMITH SERVICE

6.5x55 is about as good as it gets even with factory loads....action is an early montana rifleman 1999

I am 6'8" and 300 pounds so that gives you some scale for this picture.

Beautiful rifle mate and nice hog.

Nice! Had a 12 bore trade gun made by Curly Gostomski - so long ago the memories are very fuzzy.
