Have you ever taken eland or moose with 7mm caliber?

Just curious - are there any confirmed "7mm lovers" that use 7mm for large plains game such eland, zebra or giraffe or for North American elk or moose?

I have not, but I have guided 3 men that killed moose with 7mm Remington Mags.
One used a 160 grain bullet and 2 used 175 grain bullets.
All were one shot kills and all had exit wounds.
Could not ask for much more than that!

I know one quy who use to hunt in africa with over-under double rifle. Caliber is 7x65R. Some years ago he shot one zebra. Shooting distance was aprc. 200 meter i.e. 218 yards.

I've taken a couple of moose with the 7 mm rem mag. Pretty sure they where 145 gr Speer flat base. My uncle shoots nothing but a 7 mm rem mag in Quebec and has taken at least a dozen bulls with it. I load the same 43 pieces of brass for him ever 4 or 5 years with the 145 gr Speer. He never admits to loosing a moose.

When I was a lad the 7 mm rem mag was the moose rifle in western Quebec.

I haven't (yet) but wouldn't hesitate to do so. Shot one Eland, not with 7mm. I know I would get exceptional, if not complete penetration with 173 and 175's in my 7x57. This is based on my experience with similar weight, soft skinned game.

I would add a caveat that shot placement would have to be optimal. Not a 'shoot at all costs to get the trophy' situation.

I have taken 2 with 200 grs A-Frames out of my 300 Ultra..worked perfectly..

IMHO, the 7 will work just fine--but I would opt for a bullet on the heavier side as suggested in other posts...odds are your shots will not be that far away..and with the body size of eland..the heavier bullet would be preferable..

I have killed several wildebeest with my little G33/40 7X57 using factory 175 grain ammunition, all one shot kills. I wouldn't hesitate to use a 7mm Remington Magnum (or my 7X66 SE vom Hofe) on anything I took with my .300 H&H, which included antelope up to and including sable.
