Feeding problems custom FN98

Gday folks I new to this forum and I would appreciate your input regarding a problem I have with my new FN98 rebarreled from 30-06 to 9.3x62.
This rifle seems to feed well with most projectiles however the 286gn Woodleigh PPSN jam the meplat against the chamber rim, particularly with the lower rounds in the magazine. Because I have a fondness for this projectile which has worked well for me for several years hunting brumbies and scrub bulls with a Tikka 9.3, I am loathe to give up just yet.
I am wondering if there is a gunsmithing solution which would rectify this issue. The plan for the rifle is a nice custom based upon the classic old english styling of Rigby etc.

I have seen these old 98's wake up when fitted with a new magazine spring. I even seen two springs put together do the same thing. I don't recommend this as a cure all, but it could get you out of a pinch.

Jeez, talk about bringing up an old thread.
One option is as albertan said, a new spring.
The other is make sure the curve in the upper part of the spring keeps the floor plate at the right angle / try to make it ride higher.
You may have to mod the lip a bit to get it to ride higher.
Also, before modifying anything, try a few dummy rounds with
the bullets seated at different depths. This can sometimes make a difference.

Some custom chambers need a slight chamfer at the chamber mouth as they are cut quite squarely when chambering and some smiths forget to 'break' that edge, which can easily hang up on large diameter meplats.
Just a tought.

I have seen old Ruger magazine followers used in place of the very square shaped followers of the Mauser. The rounded step of the Ruger follower seems to aid these old smoke poles feed when a calibre is changed from the original.

Thanks for the helpful advice Daryl & Albertan. We were able to fix the problem by removing metal from the LH feed rail and by opening up the chamber mouth chamfer a little more. Rifle is now with the stockmaker. Cheers.
