Re: Wildlife in Pakistan

Nitrox,as far as i can tell these nos. and facts are correct. There is an amazing variety of wildlife here but it is badly managed. However things are beggining to improve due to the new system imposed i.e.for each permit sold 80%of the money goes to the community where the game is and 20%to the govt. This is an incentive for the locals to protect the wildlife and it is hugely successful.Gone are the days when we would go and shoot an animal by paying peanuts to our guide and get away with a trophy. This year for the first time permits are being issued for blue sheep at 5000$ apiece,80% will go to the locals which is big money considering that one US$is approx. 60 rupees.Proceeds from 3 such permits would be enough to set up a school or clinic or even build a small road.Himalayan ibex permit is sold for US$25000 and believe me it is sold out all to foreigners some of whom resell it for $40000(huge profit, wish i could do it).
Wild life management boards are being set up and it is hoped that things will improve in the near future.
