Partridge Hunt

Hunting season in Pakistan is on.It will last from 1st.Nov. to 28th.Feb.This year also the season has coincided with the holy month of Ramadan( the month of fasting)and as such during Nov.there will not be much hunting but Dec.onwards it will be in full swing.I don't know about about other places but around here hunting season is anxiously awaited and hunts are planned well in advance and all weekends(hunting is allowed only on saturdays and sundays)are booked.
Last weekend i went on a partridge shoot with friends. The host was a farmer with lands in the interior, about 3 hrs. drive from the city.Partridge shoots here are driven shoots with about 40 to 50 men walking in a straight line in the fields and beating. The hunters are about 20 yds. ahead also in a line shooting the birds as they fly out.The black partridge, which is an exceptionally beautiful bird, is found in fields of cotton, wheat and most of all in mustard fields. When driven it takes off and immediately gains height and can go quite high if allowed to do so.There is a clear distinction between male and female birds due to their colors. The brown partridge on the other hand is found mostly in desert and hilly areas but also in farms. This bird is fast and instead of gaining height tries to flee at a good speed really testing the reflexes and skill of the hunter.
We shot for about 5 hrs.and after collecting 100 birds called it a day.
