"discovered" is an exaggeration, as the Sunda Clouded Leopard was first described and classified by Cuvier in 1823. But until 2006 it was thought to be merely a subspecies of the Asian Clouded Leopard, neofelis nebulosa, and called neofelis nebulosa diardi. In 2006, by DNA and other tests, it was merely discovered that it is a different species of his own. So it was reclassified from a subspecies to the species neofelis diardi. The Sunda Clouded Leopard lives not only in Borneo, but in Sumatra too. |
