Nick:
I remember reading about Gates' close calls with a Chinese border patrol while ibex-hunting in a story called "Adventure Beyond the Himalayas". Is this the same story with a different title, or did he make a habit of playing tag with the Chinese?!

A great read, nonetheless. Thanks.

The tale is of the old days i.e.when Karachi used to be the capital. Things have changed now.My post regarding the himalayan hunt gives the latest picture.Hunza is part of Pakistan and the pass referred to is the Kunjarab pass at 15000ft.A road known as the 'silk route' links Pakistan to China and one can enter China through this route.Himalayan ibex can now be hunted legally by obtaining a permit.

The really great story was of his Marco Polo sheep hunt, which may or may not have transpired on this same trip (?). I have forgotten but Mickey would know .. he loaned me the book a while back.
