Just got back from the subcontinent where the new trend in collecting meat, is to run a wire from high tension cables along a game track. Anything, including humans, gets fried. Whilst I was there,TV news reported that the Forest dept. guys had come across a Tigress and four cubs that had been electrocuted. Whist staying at a friend's farm, the stockman got out of bed and noticed a Leopard's tail sticking out from under his bed. In view of what he saw, and the fact that the Doberman had disappeard a few days earlier, the guy locked the room and ran up to the farm house. We peeked through the window , and saw a pretty emaciated female leopard in the room. She had clearly been feeding cubs. The upshot of it all, was that the parks guys turned up, put a cage by the front door, baited it with a live stray dog, and bingo... the next morning , she was in custody. It was apparently released in a wildlife park, though the problems there are the same. Too much poaching and land encroachment by the locals, means the cats have virtually nothing to feed on. I took a couple of pics of the caged leopard. A very sad sight . |
