I found that Mongolian Elk hunts are half the price of a US hunt. You can take Ibex & Roe deer on the same hunt. Some New Zealanders have done this & are offering to share trips. African hunting prices seem to be dictated by the outfitters marketting & concession fees. The cheapest (good & reliable) hunts are operated by small operators with one PH licence. They just offer hunts for the local meat hunters & sell trophy hunts at the same price to other larger outfitters who put on the margins as wells as the added overheads. I have found 2 setups through New Zealand guides who exchange hunts with the African PHs - they are about half the price - but you cannot find this on the web or magazines. I also met a fabrication engineer from South Africa during my BC bear hunt in Sept & he has a PH licence with some good access. The problem with his set up is that he cannot guarnatee timing of hunts for foreign hunters. His business takes up most of his time & flexibility. I suppose this is similar to dok's personal contacts in the NT. For those of us with limited budgets our dreams are free and frequent! Happy dreaming! |
