peter: Not sure I'll be able to write it up well. After a while one day blends into another and it's all a blur! (yeah, right! ) ...and BTW there is no payment involved, we do it to help out the pastoralists and hopefully to counter some of the negative publicity dished-up to shooters by our benevolent Prime Minister! Anyway, I can comply with a few photos. Plenty of good boars were taken, here's a few examples: This one shot from the camp kitchen (across the waterhole) on my 'camp-dog' day: Disturbed from his midday wallow by cattle: Caught all nine SG (OO-Buck) on the shoulder at 25 yds, one pellet passed completely through! This large boar was driven onto my gun from the other bank of a steep gully by my hunting partner: Jumped from a wallow at midday: My last mature boar for the trip: ...and just in case I've given the impression that it was all trophy hunting, the real 'bread-and-butter' of any culling operation is the sows with suckers. This is a far more typical outcome, though not often photographed: in this case a 40kg sow, a couple of 10kg juveniles and four 2kg piglets. SG in both barrels for openers, then SSG for the 'rabbit-shooting' which follows! I was able to field-test the new RC4 'Palla' lead slugs on big boars, and I will be writing that one up! Those things are going to get someone badly hurt! At the risk of being sued, I can only urge prospective sluggers to avoid them at all costs! Stand by for the report in a week or so! |
