Pest Assessment of Deer in Queensland

Just thought I would let you guys know that the Department of Natural Resources and Mines are considering conducting a Pest Assessment of Deer in Queensland. They do not have a real status at the moment and the ramifications if they are declared a pest could be harsh.

What would declaration mean?
• Landholder to control
• Can be enforced – councils can issue notices – enter and clear: Penalty - $60000
• Requires permit to keep – limited to zoos
• Penalties for:
• Introducing - $30000 - $60 000
• Feeding - $3000
• Releasing - $30000 - $60000
• Keeping - $30000 - $60000
• Suppling - $30000 - $60000
