Just got back from my buffalo hunt with Brenton Hurt, Territory Buffalo Safaris. My wife and I had a wonderful time. The accomodation were wonderful considering the remote location. I never expected to have hot running showers and wine every night. Gave my wife new ideas on how we should do things when we go hunting at home. We saw one to two hundred buffalo a day. There wasn't a question if you were going to shoot one, it was just which one you were going to shoot. I shot my animal on the 3rd day. Could have shot one on the trip from the airstrip to camp right after we landed but I enjoy hunting and Brenton wanted to find a good bull. So we looked over many, many, many bulls before I shot this one. Not sure of his actual measurement, somewhere between 94 and 99. The first shot was offhand at about 80 yrds as we were standing in water and no rest was available. It broke his shoulder but he didn't go down so I ended up shooting him 4 more times before he finally gave it up. I was shooting a 375 H&H with 300 gr. Barnes TSX bullets at 2,500 fps. Recovered two bullets expanded perfect. Never found the others. These guys are tough! I think it would be a very tough animal to stop in a charge and I don't think they would hesitate to charge. I shot this one three times, destroyed his left shoulder and when he finally figured out where we were he started trying to make it our direction.
