Re: A Northern Territory Safari

HiWall

When I was at Ropers Bar we campled on the North side of the Roper River, just over the ford.

Using the spotlight at night there was a very large salty just over on the other side of the river. So if you were hunting down river there definitely would be lots there.

We also hunted on a property there, which was an abandoned property nearer the Gulf of Carpentaria but did not see any buffalo that far South. This was quite a few years ago though and in the meantime they were supposed to have colonised further South but then the cull happened.

The most salties I have seen was on the Durack River in the Kimberleys. Seven salties eyes all shining nicley within a hundred metres of our camp neear the bank.

Sweet dreams.

I think while salties and fresh water crocodiles prefer different habitats it would be very foolish to trust that fact. The Saltwater crocodiles can travel considerable distances up the rivers and estuaries.
