From a hunting standpoint, it would be nice to have access to a huntable population of deer somewhere in Australia's Top End. As you mention Clay, chital are present in the Stapleton area and have been seen by the Parkies a few times, but never by me. There are plenty of dingoes in the area so there is zero chance of the population expanding in the Back Country Hunting blocks. Sambar are present on Coburg of course, and are sometimes taken by safari clients but numbers are not high. A few small rusa populations are known as well. When we started the NT Branch of ADA many years ago, talk of pockets of deer scattered around the Northern Territory were discussed optimistically but realistic hunting opportunities have not eventuated. |
