Re: Pheasants 2

As kids we had the loan of a nice little Belgian made 28g double hammer gun for rabbit and duck shooting. The gun had Damascus twist barrels and very thin muzzles. Ammo was a bit hard to get but Eley 5/8 oz loads bowled rabbits nicely that were flushed by our Jack Russell terriors and also more than a few ducks were shot with it over decoys. The final lot of ammo we got for the 28g was Eley plastic cased 3/4oz loads. These were probably way over pressure for use in a Damascus gun but we didn't have any trouble with them.
Only problem with the gun was when the right hand hammer was cocked on a loaded chamber you had to lower the hammer by hand if you didn't take a shot as the cocked hammer prevented the top lever travelling enough to open the gun to clear the chambers. As kids with small hands we had to be real careful when lowering the hammer which had a strong spring all the while keeping the gun pointed in a safe direction. Fortunately we never had any ADs over three odd years of use.
Would be a nice gun to have now.
