More Back Country Fun!

Last trip to the Back Country Hunting blocks before the weather warmed up (!) resulted in a few stalks on buffalo and boars with some success.
Four buffalo were tipped over in the 3 days of hunting, resulting in more meat than we could carry, plus a nice boar and a lone feral horse.

This fat cow fell to my Jeffery .400NE double and was relieved of her back-straps and rumps...

...while my mate Karl sorted this one out with his .416 Ruger: ditto on the meat.

Very heavy packs on the carry-out that day!

We did miss a mob of a dozen hogs that we spotted leaving the creekline for the scrubby woodland some distance ahead.
They were upwind of us and undisturbed, but by the time we closed the 200 metres or so and scaled the embankment they had vanished!
Searched for ages, just gone!

This fellow didn't have such luck: Karl was hunting the creekline while I shadowed on the high bank at the time. He heard Karl crunch a fallen pandanus frond and jumped from his bed to run 40 metres or so, but didn't have our wind so stopped and spun around to try and see what had disturbed his nap. Karl couldn't see him through the long grass but I was perfectly positioned for a ~60 metre offhand shot quartering through the shoulders. Dumped him on the spot, very satisfying.

Its getting pretty bloody hot out there now but the next trip is already planned, probably just an over-nighter but hopefully we'll find something worthy of warming a barrel!
