Absolutely marvelous shoot and a fat time with good mates! Thanks for twisting my arm, Mark. Not that it needed much twisting! ![]() Just a footnote: I was a bit surprised at the shotshells available being #7½ steel, and only 24 grams. Just my inexperience with this style of shooting, but I was expecting #6 for pheasant, and 28 to 32 gram loads to fill the pattern. Clearly the tiny steel pellets do the job, and very few were found in the partridges that were roasted whole back in Darwin. Unfortunately the bismuth shotshell option was not available this time, as I had intended to use my rising-bite sidelock out of respect for Rigby's 250th anniversary this year. Even bent the stock to fit me better the week before, but got the no-bismuth news a few days before flying so the Rigby with its chokes intact stayed home and the cylinder-bore Greener made the cut instead. It fits me perfectly, and good choice of choke as it turned out with most birds flushing close. As mentioned in the other thread, that Jeffery boxlock ejector with its open chokes would have been perfect for this shoot with fibre-wad 7½ steel and will likely get a guernsey next time. Can't wait! ![]() |
