Re: Duck and Quail Season, South Aust 2025

Alas. I always buy a quail permit but rarely shoot quail. Once upon a time we had some nearby. On my farm or neighbours properties. But not for decades. Sometimes one crashes out in the vineyards. Land working techniques may make that unattractive for successful nesting.

One farm I deer hunted on had quail but didn't allow quail shooting.,

I've never really looked for good quail propties. But I'm thinking some of the fox drive propertiridgevshells to buy. es might be possible. If permission can be sought,

My young GSP Donder could be trained as a quail dog. He seems to be overcoming his loud bang shyness. A dog van be essential to find downed birds. I learned years ago never shoot two quail at once. As one can't mark where both fall, one finds neither. If one marks a single bird one knows the spot it fell. This wasn't stubble but pasture grass.

I also have a "new" side by side shotgun. A 16-bore W.J. Jeffery. Chokes are cylinder andbimproved-modified (?). I'm not sure why the second barrels would be IM? But it's a lightweight game gun. At last I have one. Would be perfect for quail. IF I could find some 7.5 to 9 shot cartridge shells to buy. So far only 4s and 6s,
