Victoria to ban the majority of legal deer hunting calibres.

As of December 2028, Victoria intends to ban all ammunition containing lead for deer hunting.
Lead free ammunition is not available or manufactured for the majority of legal deer hunting calibres. Lead free ammunition is already in short supply and expensive.

If your reason to own a firearm is for deer hunting in Victoria and ammunition is not manufactured or available for that calibre, you will no longer have a valid reason to possess that firearm.

The Government intends to have a clause that is non-binding for Government and Parks employees as well as contractors. This would allow culling operations to use lead-based projectiles.

There are also several other changes that will impact all hunters with a Victorian Game License.
