I've just been looking at a few photographs of water buffalo. As usual I have been struck by the difference between the domestic Asian beasts of burden and the wild or feral Timor water buffalo of Northern Australia. My question is why the considerable difference in horn? The domestic animals always appear rather puny with much greater curve in their narrower horns. There is also reportedly two types of water buffalo. The swamp and river water buffalo. Is this correct? And which type is the Aussie beast? Thanks |
