Well done Mick. Enjoy the eating, I rate Sambar/Rusa second only to Chital for eating. They can be very hard to find when they drop, really seem to blend in well.

Daryl the Sambar antlers tend to be bark, part of their camouflage I believe. Only the tips where they rub them are light in colour.

Their ears are like radar dishes and they can hear. A mate and I were sitting high above a valley floor when we saw a couple of hinds come out of the bush. Lasered distance was a tad over 300mts and we had a stiff cross wind blowing. The mate opened a pocket on his back pack by moving a zipper about 3". The hinds instantly swung their heads and were starting straight at us. Wish my hearing was a 10th as good.
