CD it has always amazed me that the dogs simply pointed the first birds they ever saw on the creek flats at the old place in mid Vic.They were never 'introduced' to them at all they just found them and as young pups I may add. Once I encouraged them to look and find quail it was non stop.I shifted house a few years ago and the dogs hadn't seen a quail since but they have lost none of what they learned (like us and bike riding) All I did was offer a few words of 'steady, steady' as the dogs moved in tighter if the birds moved. Eager to please energetic dogs are a prerequisite, fat back yard dogs need not apply. Its even better when a sambar is pointed and thats often right in the guts of a big blackberry bush when us mere humans have no idea that there is a deer within cooee. |
