I was on a meat mission and have been for a while lately and being unfit all stars have to line up, mostly the retrieval stars! I hadn't gone far from my vehicle today at first light, in fact I wasn't even in fair dinkum mode but I had seen a deer previously on the same hill face and got out a bit earlier this morn and right on daybreak I saw this deer among the berry bushes. He was trotting across the face above and across but slightly towards me.... whoa! He propped,I shot! The thwack seemed to make a hell of a thump today for some reason and he dropped on the spot. Went back to the ute and via a berry bashing route I drove up to him, hooked him up then towed the deer back down to a high road bank, dropped him off then drove back around and backed up to the bank ,dropped the tailgate and pulled him all of the two feet in. No effort for a change. I have my family trekking to here for Easter, the meat is more than welcome and most will go home with them.He had much caul fat and as a two year old hes far more solid than the pic suggests.I am happy to take the easy with the hard these days. I took his/all pics with my primitive digi camera of a few ducks here also. They are Maned geese, colloquially known as 'woodies' or 'wood ducks' |
