Re: Last Month Hunting

Layered clothing with thermals, makes the cold bearable. Did some fitness work before leaving and had a comfortable trip. Went with good advice with the hunters element gear, mac pac tents, stoney creek black stag sleeping bags, ultra light therma rests.
Mostly over the top with the gear but prepared for the worst. Second night in fiordland,it rained and high winds. 6th day weather forecast was for gail force winds , hail and snow down to 500m so decided to come out 3 days early. In hindesight a good choice. We had to move Chris tent on the second night as the river rose and a high tide bought levels up to his tent. High flat ground was at a premium.
Only had one bad morning with the cold at Omarama, struggling to cast flies when I realised the eylets had frozen on the rod. Hands were numb so hastly returned to the car to find out it was -1. Bit different to Darwin.
Hot tubs at Omarama were awesome.
Already looking to do a return trip for thar and chamois. Also for the trout.
Cheers Mick
