My original post was more of a comparison between the 45/70 and the 450 BP Express. In the old days, before nitro powder was developed, it was considered a very capable cartridge for Buffalo and the like. But as most hunting trends go, bigger is always better in the eye of most people. Just like the old 30/30 that was once considered deadly medicine for big game, now is barely adequate. And no elk should be shot with anything less than a 338 Ultra Mag. Despite the fact that people used to find the 30/06 to be more than enough gun. Have game animals somehow gotten tougher over the years? As far as the Garrett business goes. I definitely take that stuff with a grain of salt. I've killed far too many pine trees with pass thru penetration to doubt the penetrating power of a 458.....;) |
