Water Buffalo shot series

A series of photos of Aaron Neilson taking his water buffalo bull in Arnhemland.

The bull was sleeping in the water, allowing Aaron to stalk up to the bull and as Aaron
readied for the shot, the bull starts to rise.

Aaron hunted with Matt Graham of Hunt Australia and was using Matt's Verney-Carron
double rifle in .450 Nitro Express.

Aaron has approached a sleeping water buffalo out on the wetlands. As he approaches the
buffalo begins to rise and Aaron takes the first shot.

The buffalo is hit well by the first shot in the shoulder, showing the impact dust cloud.

The buffalo begins to slump.

The buffalo crashes into the mud.

While hard hit, the buffalo is still not out.

Kicking in the mud. While the buffalo is hard hit by the 480 gr projectile out of the Verney-Carron
.450 Nitro Express it is still not dead. Water buffalo are tough and large animals and take some killing.

Aaron makes an insurance shot using the second barrel of the Verney-Carron double rifle.

A good advantage of a double rifle is the second shot is quickly available.

An insurance shot is a good idea, to ensure the beast is down for good.

Aaron posing with his fine water buffalo trophy. Hunted on the wetlands of Gan Gan on the
East Coast of Arnhemland with Hunt Australia. Rifle used is a Verney-Carron double rifle
in .450 Nitro Express. The .450 NE is an excellent choice for big buffalo bulls.

Congratulations to Aaron.
