NT Hunt 2012

For the 4th year running I have been lucky enough to head up to the top end for 10 days of hunting. This year there were 4 good mates that went up to enjoy the experience and that we did with 10 buffalo, lots of scrubbers and countless pigs were taken over the hunt.

We managed a couple of barra but they went off the bite unfortunately on the full moon so many casts this trip for few fish.

The hunting didnt stop as we wanted to make sure that the 2 fellas that hadn't been there before got more than their fill of Australian big game. They both shot 3 buffalo and good scrubbers each. Andy managed a very handy boar along with many other pigs. They both were very satisfied and got a great taste of the top end which was a pleasure to share and watch unfold.

Many a night we camped under the stars with nothing more than a mozzie net that the local mozzies spent the night trying to penetrate.

I spent a day filming one of the local boys and Nathan with the bow which gave some up close action that was great for the camera. There were some real handy pigs cleaning up a scrubber that made for some good bow hunting.

My rifles and projectiles of choice for this hunt was the Ruger African Safari in 375 Ruger with 300gr Barnes TSX which were and have been dynamite on the big stuff for several years now. The other rifle I was using was a Kimber Montana in 300wsm with 168gr Barnes TTSX which I was surprised just how well it punched above its weight.

We are very lucky to have such a good opportunity and the locals looked after us very well. The whole trip cost us a carton of XXXX and a few dollars cleaning the rental at the end which was just putrid.
