Got up at 4am to go to a place I used to work at 10 years ago. It is only 120 km from here but have never worried about going back there as I have plenty of country here. Had a cup of tea with the old bloke who owns it the other day and asked if there were many pigs. He said there was more than ever and come down anytime I want. On the way down and still 30 km from the place the old red girl finally let me down. The gearbox is gone and I only had 1st and 3rd gear so did the last 30 km in 3rd. Unloaded the bike and only went 800 yards and came across pigs. Got 8 of them with the dogs and my Zastava 9.3x62. A water coarse that runs through the place. Recovered 286 grain Hornady. First pig with my Husky 9.3x57. So at 10.30am my dogs were rooted, I had run out of bullets for the 9.3x62 and had 9 left for my 9.3x57 so came home. I saw over 100 pigs for the morning and only did about 2/3rds of the 30 000 acre place. Most of the pigs were small and I didn't get any big boars but they will be there. Every sand hill had a camp in it and even I could smell the pigs before you saw them. Looking forward to going back now I know my way around a bit with some new fences and cleared country. Broke my own record with 51 pigs for the morning on my own with my priviest best of 36 for a morning. After the excitement I still had to drive 120 kms home in 3rd gear. |
