First of all I would like to thank Wiz for his hospitality and effort in showing Vanders and myself a great time in the NT. Would also like to thank Pato for a days hunting and barbie that night. Love those DR's Pato. I will start with the pig hunt, then the fishing and Finnish with the Buff hunt. Vanders was hunting with his 300WM loaded with 150 grain TTSX's as well as 180 grain Hydro's. I was using my Brno 9.3x62 loaded with 286 grain PP's and 286 grain Hydro's at 2400 fps. Our first days hunting saw us chasing pigs. We had a few hic-ups, broken centre bolt on the trailer and bogged in the Patrol after the auto engage hubs didn't. Myself and Wiz with the boy's. Here are some of Vanders pigs. Some of mine. Vanders first Donkey of the trip. The first days fishing saw us catching Barra at Yellow Waters. Man there are some big crocs in there and by the 100's. Vanders managed to hook a 12 foot model at one stag by the nose until I cut the line. We then went and stayed two nights with Spinna and fished the East Alligator River. Many thanks to Spinna for room and showing me his Collection of Brno's. Here is a Croc Wiz caught. Couple of Barra. We then fished a Billabong somewhere to Finnish the fishing off. We had to push the boat through 50 yards of this stuff.A little unnerving. The Billabong. Wiz and a nice Barra. Vanders with a good one. Our last days hunting saw us looking for a Buff for me. Saw plenty around this particular spring. The biggest bull was on the other side of the mob of coarse and we had to be careful not the spook the mob. Planing the hunt with the wind all over the place. Part of the mob. Wiz and I watching. The start of the stalk. He knows I'm there. My first good Australian Buff. After I got my Buff Vanders and I got into some Donkey's. I flicked the scope off my 9.3 for the walk. We were both using Hydro's with great effect. The first Buff I shot was with Pato and was a young bull. Entry that broke the near side shoulder. The hole above the heart with the 286 grain Hydro. A bush road train. When I was removing the head I noticed something different in colour. On closer inspection I found it was a Hydro that had traveled the full length of the Buff and had come to rest against the hard bone of the head. That is some serious penetration. Vanders shot a smaller bull for meat on the way out. He finished it off with a brain shot with a 150 grain TTSX. I found it under the ear on the other side. |
