Daryl- I target the Saratoga on fly, generaly use a 8wt Sage. during the middle of the day I use whistler style flys in 3/0 on the drop and tight against cover or weed banks. The take on the drop is usualy gentle. The fight is different to most fish with a lot of tight turning circles then short runs. They have a hard mouth and are hard to keep hooked. The other style of fishing for them is with surface flys ,gurglers, dalhbergs, cast into the lillys or thick surface vegetation. Weed guards are a necesity. The toga will burst after the fly even before it hits the water, the take is usualy brutal and they head for cover vary quickly. Great on fly. The colours that work on the Togas are the brightest you can tie. I tie a whistler style called a fruit salad, that is my favourite. I release mine as I prefer salt water fish for eating.
