In SA seeing the Labor Gov't has got its two by-elections out of the way, they finally have announced the duck and quail season. SA Seasons: Duck hunting Dates and times The open season applies for duck throughout the State from 6.50 am on Saturday 3 March until 5.35pm on Sunday 24 June, between the period from 15 minutes before sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset. Restrictions Restrictions have been placed on open season hunting in game reserves, so please refer below for specific opening times. More information can be obtained from the local DENR office. Open Season Open season across the state for: Grey Teal (Anas gibberifrons) Chestnut Teal (Anas castanea) Hardhead (Aythya australis) Wood Duck (Maned Duck) (Chenonetta jubata) Pink-eared Duck (Malacorhynchus membranaceus) Mountain Duck (Australasian Shelduck) (Tadorna tadornoides) Pacific Black Duck (Anas superciliosa). Bag Limit A total bag limit of 12 duck per hunter per day applies. Closed season Closed season on the following duck species: Australasian (Blue-winged) Shoveler (Anas rhynchotis). The Blue-winged Shoveler has a limited distribution in South Australia and has experienced a series of poor seasons in which breeding opportunities have been extremely restricted. The population (derived from aerial and ground based survey data and ecological information) appears to be fairly stable, however the species may require a longer series of favourable seasons before sustainable harvesting can be permitted. Quail hunting Dates and times The open season for quail throughout the state is from 7.30 am on Saturday 31 March until 5.30 pm on Sunday 29 July 2012 between the daylight hours from sunrise to sunset. In the state’s southeast (below the line of latitude 36 degrees south) the open season for Stubble Quail is from 7.05 am Saturday 3 March until 5.30 pm Sunday 29 July 2012. Open season Open season across the state for: Stubble Quail (Coturnix pectoralis). Bag limit A total bag limit of 25 Stubble Quail per hunter per day. http://www.environment.sa.gov.au/Plants_Animals/Abundant_species/2012_duck_quail_open_season A Hunting Permit is required, plus a separate Duck Hunting Permit AND a SEPARATE Quail hunting permit.
