Took a drive from Melb(50 mins) to a spot i know from where a couple of years ago i took a nice stag as i had been in the same place last week and noticed a bit of stag sign and thought it could be worth a squiz.4am start then a mile walk into the hot spot where i was eventually "honked" by a stag at 25 yards on a thinly wooded spur,all i saw were his tops and neat width as he turned down the hill,no luck but i then followed up and saw a hind sneaking into the scrub and 15 mins later i jumped another that ran from me then stopped and looked back.......all in all i had a great mornings hunt for this time of year.
Another hour of about saw the arrival of the flies which was a good enough excuse to finish up.
