If there's still moose there, the river is the way to find them, along with calling during the rut - quite easy if there are any around and the tracks weil show where they are. The tracks are easily distinguishable from red deer or elk. A quite pointed hoof print that's 6" to 9" long makes quite a mark in all that mud spoken about in the text.
